Laverne Seib, DVM
Laverne grew up on a mixed beef/grain operation near Young, Saskatchewan. In 1993, after graduating from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, Laverne and her husband Mark moved to Ithaca, New York. Later they moved to Marshfield, Wisconsin, where Laverne worked at a large animal veterinary practice. Missing Western Canada, they moved to Lacombe, Alberta in 1998 to work at Crestomere Veterinary Services. In 2009, Laverne started Gull Lake Veterinary Services.
Laverne and Mark have two girls, Charlotte and Teresa. They live on an acreage with numerous pets and a small flock of sheep. In her spare time, she enjoys escaping to nature, either jogging, biking, or hiking.
Professionally, Laverne enjoys working with dairy and beef cattle as well as sheep and goats. She has a passion for agriculture and shares that interest with kids through school presentations and volunteering as a 4-H project leader.
Dennis Klugkist, DVM
Dennis was born and raised on a dairy and beef operation near Condor, Alberta. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Calgary in 2012. Upon graduating, he moved to an acreage near Lacombe along with his wife, Kristina, and their four children, Brenae, Dayton, Kadence and Brogan. At the same time as their move to Lacombe, Dennis began working at Gull Lake Veterinary Services. He became a partner in the practice in 2016.
Dennis enjoys working with both dairy and beef cattle. He has a particular interest in dairy reproduction and embryo transfer.
When not at work, Dennis enjoys playing hockey, camping and fishing and keeps busy taking his kids to hockey, basketball, and music lessons.
Celine C. Newton, DVM
Celine grew up in Lacombe, AB working with dairy cows and knew since high school that she wanted to work in animal agriculture. After attending Red Deer College and running on their cross-country running team, she took a year off to work full-time at a dairy in New Zealand. She then attended the University of Alberta for two years enrolled in a BSc Agriculture before getting accepted into the University of Calgary Veterinary Medicine Program, graduating in 2022.
In the past few years, she has had the opportunity to attend an advanced dairy medicine course for six weeks in New York State, spend time on large-scale dairies in Arizona, spend a week doing a spay-neuter clinic in Mexico, and spend five weeks teaching veterinary medicine and working with cattle and sheep in Mongolia. She is very excited to be back in Central Alberta, working with dairy and beef cattle, small ruminants and horses.
In her spare time she does a lot of hiking, cross country skiing, volleyball, running, biking, karaoke, travelling, and rock climbing with her husband David.
Morgan Rubie, DVM
Veterinarian
Morgan grew up in Calgary and knew she wanted to work in veterinary medicine from a young age. She received a 3 yr Bachelor of science in biochemistry from the University of
Saskatchewan in 20011 and graduated from the Western College of Veterinary medicine in 2015.
Morgan found herself drawn to the large animal side of practice through her clinic experiences and a Vets without Borders trip to Kenya working with dairy cows. Upon graduating, she also participated in a six-week dairy intensive course in New York (the Summer Dairy Institute).
After working for a couple years in Ontario, Morgan was excited to move back to central Alberta and join Gull Lake Veterinary Services in 2016. Morgan thoroughly enjoys working with both dairy and beef cattle. She has a particular interest in calf health and data analysis.
In her spare time Morgan enjoys hiking, running, skiing, and camping with her husband and son.
Mandi Krause
Clinic Manager
Mandi grew up in the Ponoka area, where she still calls home today. She started working for the clinic in 2010 and is a core part of the team. She and her husband have three kids, and when they’re not at work they spend their time bringing their kids around to their various sports and 4H activities, and working on their farm with their own cattle.
Haley Purdie
Registered Veterinary Technician
Haley joined the Gull Lake Veterinary Team as a vet tech in 2020 right after graduating from Olds College. She is a 7th generation rancher, growing up on a ranch east of Red Deer. Her favourite parts of the job include running the calf health program and assisting with surgeries. When she’s not at work she enjoys powerlifting and working cattle with her family.
